Palo Alto Startup Elorian Releases Glimpse, Its First Visual AI Model
· Technology · TechCrunch
Palo Alto AI startup Elorian has released Glimpse, its first visual AI model designed to reason directly with images and videos rather than just converting them to text. The model features a visual scratch space mechanism that allows it to crop into regions, pull specific frames, and run code mid-reasoning to measure or compare visual data. Elorian raised a $55 million seed round at a $300 million valuation before launching its product, building Glimpse using a few hundred GPUs with a small team. The model is launching as a research preview with API access, while its chat interface remains waitlist-only. Glimpse is priced at $0.60 per million tokens in and $3 per million tokens out, positioning it between lightweight and mid-level AI models on cost.
Why it matters
The launch introduces a new architectural approach to multimodal AI that could improve how models handle complex visual data in robotics, scientific research, and media.
