Panvel Municipal Corporation Delays Issuing Murder Victim's Death Certificate
· India · Indian Express, The Hindu
The family of Ashwini Bidre-Gore is struggling to obtain her death certificate more than 17 months after she was murdered. Although an Executive Magistrate ordered the Panvel Municipal Corporation to issue the document on July 31, following a 2025 court conviction of former inspector Abhay Kurundkar, the civic body has yet to comply. Her husband, Raju Gore, reported that the family submitted over 400 supporting documents to the authorities without success. The delay has prevented the couple's daughter from accessing post-death benefits necessary for her higher education. The Panvel Municipal Corporation has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the delay.
Why it matters
The failure to issue the certificate denies the victim's family essential financial benefits and legal closure, highlighting administrative hurdles in post-conviction processes.
