Para-athlete Neeraj Yadav found dead at 42 after anti-doping ban
· Sports · Times of India, The Hindu
Neeraj Yadav, 42, was found dead at a flat in Delhi on Tuesday, with reports indicating suicide by poison consumption. A three-time Asian Para Games gold medallist, Yadav had won gold in javelin, discus, and shot put events across the 2018 Jakarta and 2023 Hangzhou editions. His career was provisionally suspended in 2023 after the National Anti-Doping Agency detected stanozolol in an out-of-competition sample collected in Bengaluru. A postmortem examination was underway at Delhi's GTB Hospital on Wednesday.
Why it matters
The para-sports community has lost one of India's most successful athletes, whose career was cut short by a doping controversy that barred him from competing at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games. His death raises questions about athlete welfare and the pressures surrounding anti-doping investigations.
