Partial Shift of Mumbai International Flights to Navi Mumbai Deferred to March 2027

· India · Hindustan Times, The Hindu, LiveMint

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has directed Adani Airport Holdings to delay the planned partial relocation of international flights from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to Navi Mumbai International Airport until March 2027. Mumbai airport had proposed cutting 265 weekly international flights from Terminal 2 starting October 25 to make room for domestic operations ahead of Terminal 1's phased redevelopment. Airlines including IndiGo, Air India and Akasa Air called the timeline unachievable, saying the airport owner proceeded without consulting them. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha, attended by airline representatives, the Airports Authority of India, the Federation of Indian Airlines and IATA. Navi Mumbai airport lies about 35 km from the existing Mumbai airport in Andheri. The transition plan remains under discussion.

Why it matters

International passengers and airlines avoid a disruptive mid-season shift at India's busiest airport, while the Navi Mumbai airport's operational readiness gets more time for a phased ramp-up.
