A passenger vessel named Virgo Transport 8 lost contact while sailing in the Java Sea near Indonesia on Sunday. The ship was en route from Surabaya, East Java, to Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan when it experienced a communication failure. Its last recorded position was approximately 148 kilometres from a pier in Banjarmasin.
