Peak XV Increases Surge Seed Investment Ceiling to $5 Million

· Business · TechCrunch

Peak XV Partners has raised the investment limit for its seed-stage platform, Surge, to $5 million per company, up from the previous $3 million cap. The firm unveiled its 12th cohort, consisting of 18 startups that have collectively raised over $90 million in seed funding. While the startups are based in various global locations ranging from San Francisco to Sydney, more than half of the companies are headquartered in India. Managing Director Rajan Anandan noted that the firm is seeing more capital-intensive companies in sectors like deeptech, which has necessitated larger seed-stage rounds. Since its 2019 launch, Surge has backed over 180 startups, with the top ten companies now generating more than $1 billion in combined annual revenue.

Why it matters

The increased funding ceiling signals a shift toward larger, more capital-intensive seed rounds, potentially raising the entry bar for startups in India and global markets. This move provides founders with more runway to build specialized technologies in sectors like AI, robotics, and space before seeking Series A funding.
