Pezeshkian Offers Return to US-Iran MoU If Washington Reinstates Commitments

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Tehran is ready to revive the June ceasefire agreement with the US if Washington honours its side of the deal. Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Pezeshkian said Iran's reciprocation would be immediate once the US resumes compliance with the memorandum of understanding (MoU). The MoU, brokered by Pakistan and Qatar, set a 60-day window for negotiations to end the war that began with US and Israeli strikes on Tehran on February 28. Under its terms, Iran was to clear Strait of Hormuz mines while lifting the US naval blockade, sanctions and oil export waivers. Pezeshkian accused Washington of walking away from the document within two weeks through "excessive demands." The MoU lapsed last month after renewed US-Iran strikes, including US attacks on Larak Island and Iran's retaliation on two US airbases in Jordan.
