PGA Tour To Introduce Match-Play Format At Tour Championship

The PGA Tour will transition its season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta to a 32-player match-play format starting in 2028. Under the new structure, the top 90 players will compete in an initial stroke-play event to determine the 32 qualifiers who advance to the match-play stage. The tournament will feature a group stage where players compete head-to-head, followed by a knockout round to decide the champion. Tiger Woods expressed support for the change, stating that the season's conclusion should reflect the journey of the players. The current FedExCup Playoffs format, which spans three weeks with varying field sizes, will be replaced by this new competitive model.
