Pilot Stabbing Causes Emergency Landing of Tel Aviv-Bound Flight
· World · The Independent, NBC News, Wall Street Journal
FlyDubai Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv suffered an attempted hijacking when a pilot allegedly stabbed the co-pilot midair. The Boeing 737 carrying around 150 Israeli passengers dropped 13,000 feet in 30 seconds off course before landing at Tabuk airport in northwestern Saudi Arabia. Passengers near the front of the aircraft intervened to neutralize the attacker, while off-duty pilots assisted in landing the plane safely. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the situation is under control, and security agencies including the IDF and Mossad are investigating. A second FlyDubai flight to Tel Aviv, FZ1081, was also diverted back to Dubai.
Why it matters
