Pilots' Federation Urges DGCA To Increase Random Drug Testing

The Federation of Indian Pilots has requested the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to raise the annual random drug testing requirement for pilots from 10% to 25%. FIP president Captain CS Randhawa communicated the proposal to DGCA chief Vir Vikram Yadav in New Delhi. The federation also recommended implementing a psychoactive-substance and medication awareness program for all flight crew members. FIP identified several categories of medicines, including cough syrups and sedating antihistamines, that may impair flight safety or lead to positive test results. The proposal seeks to ensure more frequent and unpredictable testing to improve aviation safety standards.
