PM CARES Domestic Donations Drop 30% to ₹479 Crore in FY25

· India · The Hindu, India Today, Indian Express

Domestic donations to the PM CARES Fund fell 30 % to ₹479 crore during FY25, while foreign contributions dropped 18 % to ₹92.8 lakh, according to the latest audit report. The fund’s total balance rose to ₹8,452 crore on 31‑March‑2025 from ₹7,173 crore a year earlier, with ₹7,846 crore parked in fixed deposits and ₹605 crore in savings bank accounts. Total disbursements for FY25 were ₹87.85 lakh, a sharp decline from ₹15.6 crore in the previous year. Domestic contributions peaked at ₹7,184 crore in FY20‑21 and have since fallen to ₹909 crore in FY22‑23. The audit statements have not been made public since FY22‑23. PM CARES was established by the Narendra Modi government to provide relief in emergencies such as the Covid pandemic.

Why it matters

Reduced donations lower the fund’s resource base for emergency relief, potentially affecting the scale and speed of aid in future crises. It also raises questions about public confidence in the fund’s management and accountability.
