PM CARES Fund Spent Only 0.1% of FY 2024-25 Donations
· India · The Hindu, India Today, Indian Express
The PM CARES Fund utilized just ₹87.85 lakh, or 0.1% of its total income, during the financial year 2024-25, according to audited financial statements released in New Delhi on Tuesday. Domestic donations fell by 30% to nearly ₹479 crore, while foreign contributions declined by 18% to ₹92.8 lakh. The audited documents for 2023-24 and 2024-25 were made public following a prolonged delay after annual disclosures lapsed since fiscal year 2022-23. Civil society representatives, including NCPRI co-convenor Anjali Bhardwaj, questioned why massive sums are kept idle as the fund's closing balance reached ₹8,452.06 crore. From March 2020 to March 31, 2025, the charitable trust has disbursed less than one-fifth of its total income.
Why it matters
Questions regarding financial transparency and the accumulation of idle capital continue to surround the high-profile public charitable trust.
