Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s four-day visit to Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic aims to strengthen bilateral ties and engage with key multilateral platforms. The diplomatic agenda includes preparations for the upcoming BRICS Summit in September, lobbying for India's UN Security Council term for 2028-2029, and reviving the India-Central Asia Summit, which has not convened since 2022. Observers note that India's road connectivity to the region has been severely constrained due to ruptured diplomatic ties with Pakistan since 2016 and stalled pipeline projects like TAPI. While bilateral trade has grown from $500 million in 2010 to over $2 billion in 2025, New Delhi faces the challenge of countering regional perceptions that it has lost strategic interest in Central Asia. All eyes will also be on whether Mr. Modi signals attendance at the 2027 SCO summit in Islamabad.
