PM Modi Returns To SRCC After 13 Years For Centenary Celebrations

· India · Indian Express, Hindustan Times, Times of India

PM Narendra Modi will visit Delhi University's Shri Ram College of Commerce on Saturday, September 5, 2026, to mark the institution's centenary celebrations and address the gathering. His last visit to the college was in 2013, when he was Gujarat Chief Minister; he became Prime Minister a year later. The visit coincides with Teachers' Day and comes amid the BJP's ongoing youth outreach following CJP-led Jantar Mantar protests last month over exam paper leaks, and ahead of Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Goa next year. SRCC principal Prof Simrit Kaur has also invited Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi, who was given the education ministry charge last month, to the event. In April 2026, Modi had met the college's Governing Body at his residence and released a commemorative postage stamp marking SRCC's 100th anniversary.

Why it matters

The PM's return to one of Delhi's most-watched commerce colleges doubles as a youth and student outreach moment for the BJP, with three Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Goa due next year and lingering anger over exam paper leaks still on the political agenda.
