PM Modi Urges Iran to Ensure Peace and Freedom of Navigation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on the sidelines of the SCO summit for the first top-level meeting between the two nations since the beginning of the Iran conflict in February 2026. Mr. Modi urged the Iranian leadership to ensure regional peace and stability while guaranteeing freedom of navigation and commerce in the Strait of Hormuz. Stressing that civilians and civilian infrastructure must remain protected under all circumstances, Mr. Modi also reiterated India's commitment to strengthening long-standing bilateral ties and invited President Pezeshkian to India for the upcoming BRICS summit.
