PM Modi Urges SCO to Confront States Using Terrorism as Policy Instrument

· World · The Hindu, Hindustan Times

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek to confront countries using terrorism as an instrument of state policy and reject double standards in combating terror financing. In the presence of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Mr Modi called for the grouping to dismantle the entire ecosystem of terrorist recruitment, radicalisation, and safe havens. In an apparent reference to China's Belt and Road Initiative, he also stated that connectivity projects must respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries. Additionally, addressing the West Asia crisis, he expressed concern and maintained that conflicts should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy rather than on the battlefield.

Why it matters

The remarks directly target cross-border terrorism and regional connectivity disputes involving Pakistan and China, shaping India's diplomatic posture within multilateral Eurasian security forums.
