Poland Mourns Six Killed in Krakow Far-Right Terror Attack
· World · The Independent, BBC News
Poland has entered two days of national mourning after a 24-year-old man killed six people and wounded 15 in a shooting at Krakow's Main Square. Authorities described the attack as an act of terror, noting the perpetrator held radical, ultranationalistic views. Police later discovered the bodies of the attacker's parents and sister at the family home in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, where they likely died from gunshot wounds. The victims in Krakow included four women and two men, among them one U.K. citizen and five other foreign nationals from Portugal, Russia, Germany, and Austria. Two police officers who intervened remain hospitalised, with one in critical condition.
Why it matters
The attack marks a rare mass killing in Poland, prompting a national security response and raising concerns about rising far-right extremism.
