Police Case Lodged After Protests And Attack On Anti-Poaching Camps In Hanur

Forest Department officials lodged a formal police complaint on Tuesday regarding attacks on anti-poaching camps within the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary in Hanur. The unrest followed the fatal shooting of three suspected poachers during an alleged exchange of fire with Forest Department personnel near Hanur on August 15. Protestors targeted two or three anti-poaching camps along with residential quarters belonging to the Forest Department. Chamarajanagar district police superintendent M. Muthuraj denied allegations that protestors used explosives, stating that a camp battery exploded due to excess temperature. Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment Ramalinga Reddy confirmed that Inspector-General of Police M.B. Boralingaiah briefed him on the incident and that legal action is underway against those involved.
