Police Record Cites Plastic Pellet Use During New Delhi Parliament March

A general diary entry filed at the Parliament Street police station in New Delhi reveals that the Rapid Action Force fired two rounds of ballistic cartridges containing plastic pellets during a July 20 protest march. The entry states that an RAF Deputy Commandant ordered the firing alongside 55 non-electrical shells, 15 electrical shells, and five tear-smoke grenades. The deployment of these munitions had initially been denied by both Delhi Police and the Press Information Bureau. An RTI application filed by TMC leader Saket Gokhale revealed that at least 10 people sustained pellet injuries during the demonstration. The International Service for Human Rights has urged UN experts to investigate the use of these weapons.
