Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe stated that public health rather than personal popularity drives his ongoing enforcement actions across the state. In an interview in Mumbai, Mundhe noted that his aggressive food safety crackdown has led to action against 12,083 establishments, including improvement notices issued to 5,269 entities and suspension orders given to 603 entities since May 2026. The inspections covered 1,803 hotels, restaurants, and eateries, resulting in 948 improvement notices and 199 license suspensions. Additionally, 740 pharmacy licenses were cancelled or suspended for various violations during his tenure, which marks the 25th transfer of his 21-year career.
