Power Restored to 29 Lakh Consumers in Cyclone-Hit Andhra Districts

· India · Hindustan Times, PTI

Andhra Pradesh power utilities have restored electricity to nearly 29 lakh consumers across cyclone-affected coastal districts following the landfall of Cyclone Murasu on November 3, 2026. Special Chief Secretary K Vijayanand reviewed restoration operations at the State Load Dispatch Centre in Amaravati and commended personnel working round the clock. The cyclone severely damaged power infrastructure across Bapatla, Prakasam, Palnadu, Guntur, NTR and Krishna districts, including fallen poles and a collapsed 220-kV terminal tower in Bapatla. Officials noted that water ponds and waterlogging continue to delay pole erection in certain locations, prompting teams to make temporary power arrangements. Under the Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited zone, 11,537 personnel across 1,001 specialised teams successfully restored power to all 552 affected substations and 5,753 villages.

Why it matters

The rapid restoration of power infrastructure directly impacts nearly 29 lakh households, farmers, and commercial establishments across Andhra Pradesh's coastal districts, helping normalise daily life and economic activity after severe cyclone damage.
