Praful Patel Calls for NCP Introspection After Maharashtra Council Poll Loss
· India · The Hindu, India Today
Nationalist Congress Party leader Praful Patel called for immediate introspection and organisational reforms after the party's candidate trailed in the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections. The NCP's three-time sitting MLC, Satish Chavan, was losing in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) Graduates constituency, with rival NCP (SP) candidate Pratapsinh Patil leading. Patel stated on X that the results were a clear warning for the party, emphasising the need to regain public trust and realign priorities. This comes amidst indications of a rift within the NCP following the death of then-party chief Ajit Pawar earlier this year.
Why it matters
This election result and subsequent call for introspection signal potential shifts in the NCP's internal dynamics and strategy, which could impact political alliances and governance in Maharashtra.
