· Sports · Indian Express, NDTV Sports

Mysore's Pranavi Urs secured India's first-ever golf gold at the Asian Games, overcoming a triple bogey 7 on the third hole to finish 15-under par and win by one stroke. Yin Ruoning of China finished second after a playoff with Singapore's Shannon Xuan Yin Tan, who was the European Order of Merit winner last year. Urs, ranked 294th in the world, held her composure after the early setback and carded three subsequent birdies to seal the victory. Aditi Ashok, who led going into the final round at the 2023 Asian Games, faded to silver after a final-round 77.

Why it matters

Urs's gold marks India's maiden medal in women's individual golf at the Asian Games, ending a 61-year drought and elevating the sport's profile in the country.
