Pregnant Telangana Woman Uses Bullock Cart to Reach Ambulance Amid Muddy Roads

On 5 September, a pregnant woman from Sarkepalli village in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district, Telangana, was carried on a bullock cart to a stalled 108 emergency ambulance after the vehicle could not navigate a muddy stretch near Marepalli. The ambulance was unable to proceed beyond Marepalli because the road deteriorated into mud, forcing residents to use the cart to transport the woman to the waiting vehicle. The ambulance then drove her to Wankidi Government Hospital, where she safely delivered a baby girl. Villagers cited the poor road conditions as a risk factor for two‑wheelers, autos and other vehicles during medical emergencies, particularly for pregnant women, the elderly, children and seriously ill patients. The incident has prompted appeals for immediate road repairs to ensure ambulance access to Sarkepalli during the monsoon and future emergencies.
