Premier League Keens to Resolve EFL Funding Stalemate

The Premier League has stated its desire to reach a new funding agreement with the EFL as soon as possible after presenting a 10-year offer last week. The proposed deal would double solidarity payments to the 72 EFL clubs, providing an additional £1.8 billion funded partly by an increased transfer levy. Talks remain ongoing as the EFL has yet to accept the settlement following years of stalemate over support for the lower football pyramid. If an agreement is not reached, an alternative solution could be imposed by the Independent Football Regulator using its backstop powers. The proposed package would also require scrapping the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final and include controls to prevent funds from being spent on player wages.
