Priyank Kharge Asks RSS to Seek Formal Police Nod for Marches
· India · Hindustan Times, The Hindu, Deccan Herald
Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge has directed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to obtain formal police clearance for its upcoming Vijayadashami route marches in Bengaluru on October 25. Kharge stated that letters notifying authorities of planned routes do not constitute official permission. He argued that the police require time to manage logistics, including security, traffic, and personnel deployment for the large-scale processions. BJP spokesperson S Prakash responded by citing a Madras High Court ruling that previously permitted RSS route marches in Tamil Nadu.
Why it matters
The dispute creates uncertainty for the RSS's planned October 25 events in Bengaluru and highlights ongoing friction between the Karnataka government and the organisation.
