Prominent Mumbai Doctor-Mountaineer and Group of 61 Missing in Nepal Floods

A group of 61 Indian travellers from Mumbai, Pune, and other states remain untraceable after flash floods struck the Nepal-Tibet route near the immigration point. The expedition was led by Andheri-based family physician and mountaineer Dr Milind P Chitley, who is missing alongside his pathologist wife Megha. Other prominent missing medical professionals include Hinduja Hospital blood bank head Dr Anand Deshpande, Nanavati hospital gynaecology head Dr Gayatri Deshpande, and dentist Dr Meenakshi Ramani. Nepalese authorities have launched a multi-agency search and rescue operation as the death toll surpassed hundreds with over 1,300 people still reported missing. Families and hospital spokespersons in Mumbai and Bengaluru are actively coordinating with the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu to locate survivors.
