Promising Indian sprinters DM Jayaram and Malaya Barik died in a motorcycle accident late Wednesday night in Odisha. Jayaram, 21, was a two-time national relay champion and a two-time Asian U20 bronze medallist in the 4x100m relay, while 20-year-old Malaya competed in the 400m event. Both athletes had recently competed in the Indian Open Under-23 Athletics competition held in Jaipur. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed grief on X, calling their untimely passing a profound loss for the state's sporting fraternity.
