Pune-based software professional and activist Vidyanand Bapat was assaulted on Thursday while speaking to a media channel on Tilak Road. An unidentified attacker slapped Bapat, accusing him of being an atheist and opposing Hindu festivals. The confrontation stemmed from Bapat's public campaign against the use of high-decibel DJs and loudspeakers during the upcoming 10-day Ganeshotsav festival. Bapat had previously raised these noise pollution concerns during a Pune Municipal Corporation preparatory meeting.
