The Pune Teachers' constituency recorded 85.87 per cent turnout by 4 pm, while the Graduates' seat saw 62.78 per cent, according to the District Information Office. Turnout was higher than the 2020 polls, when the Teachers' seat was at 58.43 per cent and the Graduates' seat at 44.87 per cent. A total of 53,185 votes were polled in the Teachers' constituency and 2,43,611 in the Graduates' constituency by 4 pm. Counting will take place on October 27. Minister Chandrakant Patil and District Collector Jitendra Dudi also cast their votes. The final turnout figures for the October 23 poll have not yet been released. BJP candidates Dr Smita Jadhav and Kaustubh Gawde are contesting against NCP and Congress opponents and independents in the Graduates' and Teachers' seats respectively.

Why it matters

The high voter participation boosts the legitimacy of the ongoing legislative elections in Maharashtra, signaling strong civic engagement in Pune. The close contest between BJP and opposition candidates could shift the balance of power in the state legislature. Counting on October 27 will determine whether the ruling BJP expands its foothold in these key seats.
