Punjab And Haryana High Court Upholds Fake Job FIR Against Patiala Cop
· India · Indian Express, The Hindu
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has refused to quash a forgery and cheating FIR against a senior constable in Patiala despite a mutual compromise between the parties. Justice Shalini Singh Nagpal ruled that the allegations of running a fake job scam and forging a government appointment letter are grave and serious offences. The complainant, a private school computer teacher, alleged that the constable promised a government job in exchange for Rs 3 lakh and handed him a fake appointment letter at a bus stand in Sector 43, Chandigarh. The court observed that because a public servant is accused of abusing official authority, the case must proceed through trial.
Why it matters
Public servants accused of official corruption and document forgery will face strict judicial scrutiny, as courts reject settlements in severe fraud cases.
