Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Slams Centre Over Drug Menace Claims
· India · The Hindu, Times of India
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday accused the Union government of singling out Punjab and defaming Punjabis over the drug menace, arguing that drugs are sold rampantly in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. Chairing a review meeting for the State government's flagship 'Yudh Nashean Virudh' initiative at Phillaur, Mr. Mann urged the Centre to stop the flow of drugs across the international border and from Gujarat instead of maligning the State. He announced the deployment of 117 new vehicles for Deputy Superintendents of Police to strengthen enforcement and called for transforming the anti-drug drive into a mass movement. The Chief Minister also addressed the killing of anti-drug crusader Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa, promising a thorough investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible. Meanwhile, the Punjab BJP State executive committee met in Sangrur to criticize the ruling Aam Aadmi Party over deteriorating law and order, gangsterism, and corruption.
Why it matters
