The campus unrest began after protests erupted over unverified allegations that an outsider had sexually assaulted a student. The university denied the allegations, while police registered a rape case against an unknown person and formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the matter. Senior police officers stated that preliminary investigations and questioning of girls in the hostel room could not substantiate the assault claims. Following the violence, the university suspended classes for 10 days, prompting students to leave the campus.
