Punjab Cop Suspended After CCTV Shows Him Planting Drugs at Shiv Sena Leader's House
· India · Indian Express, Times of India
An assistant sub-inspector of police in Punjab's Khanna has been suspended after CCTV footage showed him placing a packet under a mattress at the residence of Shiv Sena leader Mahant Kashmir Giri. The action came a day after the Khanna police claimed to have recovered 30 grams of heroin from the same spot and arrested Giri. Senior Superintendent of Police Darpan Ahluwalia stated that Giri has since been discharged from the case. A Special Investigation Team led by an SP-rank officer has been constituted to probe the matter and examine the role of other officials involved in the search operation. The initial police case began after Giri's driver was arrested with 7.5 grams of heroin, which led officers to Giri's residence.
Why it matters
The case exposes serious misconduct within local law enforcement and led to the immediate suspension of an officer, raising questions about police accountability during drug raids.
