Punjab Government To Approach Supreme Court Over CBI Probe Into Chief Minister's OSD
· India · Times of India, The Hindu
The Punjab government is set to move the Supreme Court to challenge the Punjab and Haryana High Court's order directing a CBI probe into letters sent by the Enforcement Directorate. The High Court intervened following a Public Interest Litigation filed by advocate Nikhil Thamman after the Punjab Police allegedly failed to register a case based on ED communications. The ED sought an FIR against Rajbir Singh Ghumman, Officer on Special Duty to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and others over alleged corruption. During the proceedings, petitioners also raised concerns that Punjab has lacked a regular DGP for over four years in violation of Supreme Court guidelines. Meanwhile, Punjab Congress chief Pargat Singh criticised the Aam Aadmi Party administration over systemic corruption allegations.
Why it matters
The legal battle between the Punjab government and central investigative agencies escalates political friction and places scrutiny on the Chief Minister's Office.
