Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Harjit Singh was shot dead by unidentified assailants while on motorcycle patrol in Amritsar late Thursday night. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed condolences, with the state announcing an ex-gratia payment of ₹1 crore. HDFC Bank will provide an additional ₹1 crore insurance payout to the bereaved family.
