· India · Hindustan Times, Indian Express

The Punjab Police have registered three FIRs against unidentified students for attempt to murder, robbery, and assault on police personnel following violent clashes at Lovely Professional University in Phagwara. An eight-member special investigation team led by Phagwara Superintendent of Police Major Singh has been formed to probe acts of arson on the campus. Violence erupted after a mob vandalized property, torched police vehicles, and blocked the Amritsar-Delhi National Highway-44 for nearly 12 hours following unverified rumors regarding a student. Internet services in the area resumed after a 24-hour suspension, while entry for outsiders and media remains restricted. The Kapurthala police previously registered a rape case under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on September 26.
