Punjab Police Rejects Uniform Advisory as Fake
· India · Indian Express, NDTV
Punjab Police has rejected the alleged internal Border Range Police circular as fake and said no such advisory was issued. Congress Punjab president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia shared the document in Chandigarh on Tuesday. The letter told police personnel to wear plain clothes while travelling to and from duty and to keep civilian dress, badges, identity cards and equipment from public view. It also advised against travelling alone, called for movement under a Buddy Pair System and required officers to report their departure and safe arrival. The document was attributed to Border Range Inspector General Gurpeet Singh Bhullar and addressed to senior police officers in Amritsar Rural, Batala, Gurdaspur and Pathankot. The reason for the alleged instructions and the authenticity of an accompanying audio recording remain unverified.
Why it matters
Police personnel in the named Punjab districts face confusion over duty travel and personal security instructions. Warring and Majithia have used the document to accuse the Aam Aadmi Party government of creating fear within the force, while Punjab Police directs citizens and personnel to use official channels.
