Putin Calls SCO Independent Centre of Multipolar World

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation has become an independent centre of the emerging multipolar world, according to TASS. Speaking at the SCO Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Putin framed the bloc as a counterweight to Western-dominated global institutions. He called for deeper cooperation among member states on security, trade and connectivity. India, China, Russia, Pakistan and several Central Asian states are members of the grouping. The summit is being held amid ongoing geopolitical tensions following the Russia-Ukraine war and friction between India and China on the border.
