Qualcomm Introduces Camera-Equipped Earbuds and Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2
· Technology · Indian Express, Gadgets360
Qualcomm unveiled its Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 chip at the Snapdragon Summit in Maui, Hawaii, introducing support for camera-equipped earbuds. Showcased by audio brand Cleer, the new wearable concept features built-in cameras designed to map surroundings and help multimodal AI process visual and audio information simultaneously rather than take photos. The chip is 30 per cent smaller, twice as powerful for AI, and up to 40 per cent more power efficient than its predecessor, catering to the upcoming agentic AI era. While neither Qualcomm nor Cleer confirmed a retail launch date for the camera earbuds, the technology points toward context-aware audio assistants and real-time translation features. Apple is also reportedly exploring similar camera-equipped AirPods design concepts.
Why it matters
The development marks a major shift in personal audio wearables, moving traditional headphones beyond simple media playback into context-aware AI sensor devices.
