Queen's University Belfast Students Selected for NASA Robotics Competition

· Technology · BBC News

A team of 10 engineering students from Queen's University Belfast is heading to Florida to compete in NASA's international Lunabotics competition. The students designed a 52 kg aluminium-framed rover capable of navigating lunar-simulated environments, digging up material, and building walls. The team secured their spot at the event after winning a preliminary robotics competition held in Milton Keynes earlier this year. They will compete against university teams from Australia, India, and the United States. The students are the only European team participating in this year's event.

Why it matters

The competition provides a platform for students to apply complex systems engineering processes to real-world space exploration challenges, potentially influencing future lunar mission technologies.
