The racketeering conspiracy trial of Chinese tech giant Huawei began in New York on Wednesday. Federal prosecutors accuse the company of stealing technology from American companies, abusing the U.S. financial system, and helping Iran surveil its citizens. Department of Justice attorney Taylor Stout told the Brooklyn jury that Huawei committed multiple crimes over two decades. Defense attorney Brian Heberlig dismissed the allegations, arguing that the case relies on anecdotes and isolated incidents involving a few of the company's 200,000 employees. The first prosecution witness, Parham Baheshti, testified that he fed secrets to the U.S. government after encountering Huawei while working for an internet provider in Iran. The trial is ongoing.
