Rail Passengers Can Insure Train Tickets for Rs 10 Lakh Cover
· India · Times of India, Zee News
From Tuesday, October 27, all railway passengers buying reserved tickets from counters in New Delhi can opt for travel insurance. The premium is only 45 paise per passenger, including taxes, with coverage of Rs 10 lakh in case of death and permanent total disability in a train accident. The scheme also provides Rs 7.5 lakh for permanent partial disability and up to Rs 2 lakh for hospitalisation expenses arising from injuries, as well as Rs 10,000 towards transportation of mortal remains of deceased passengers. Coverage extends to specified railway accidents and untoward incidents, including train collisions, derailments, violent attacks, robbery, arson and accidental falls from trains, and applies to normal class passengers aged 5 and above with reserved berths.
Why it matters
This makes travel insurance accessible to millions of ordinary rail passengers who previously could only buy it online, covering death, disability and hospitalisation costs from train accidents for a nominal fee.
