Railways Cancels Trains to New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin Ahead of Protest
· India · Hindustan Times, Indian Express, India Today
The Railways has cancelled all mail and express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 am and 2 pm on Saturday, October 10. The cancellations apply to trains starting from their originating stations after 2 pm on Friday and are being executed at the source itself. The measure comes in response to a planned protest by the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Intelligence inputs and traffic advisories warned of severe road congestion around the stations during the demonstration. Officials noted that the step is intended to prevent passenger hardship following a recent incident where thousands were left behind due to traffic blockades.
Why it matters
Thousands of passengers scheduled to arrive in the national capital face significant travel disruption as long-distance trains are cancelled at their source to manage protest-related congestion.
