· India · Times of India, Indian Express

A consumer commission in Karnataka found South Western Railway guilty of deficiency in service after T Nagendra and 23 family members, including four children, were forced to alight from a train because coach washrooms had no water. The group, returning from Tirupati to Shivamogga in April 2025, purchased second-class tickets from Yeshwanthpura and faced the issue after the train left for Tumkur. Railway police advised Nagendra to disembark at Tumkur, where he lodged a complaint, after which the family bought additional tickets for Rs 1,760 to complete their journey. The commission ordered a refund of Rs 1,000, a compensation of Rs 10,000, and Rs 5,000 in litigation costs.

Why it matters
