Rain Eases in Kerala as Cyclone Arnab Makes Landfall, Temperatures to Rise
· India · The Hindu, Le Monde.fr
Rainfall activity is expected to significantly decrease across Kerala as severe cyclonic storm Arnab made landfall along the Andhra coast on Wednesday. With the reduction in rain, daytime temperatures are predicted to rise noticeably across the state, with several areas already recording temperatures 3-4 degrees Celsius above normal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts Cyclone Arnab to weaken into a deep depression within 12 hours. While a new low-pressure area is likely to form over the south Andaman Sea, its impact on Kerala's weather is currently uncertain. Two previous weather systems in October helped Kerala bridge its rainfall deficiency, with the state recording 269.1 mm against a normal of 278.7 mm for the northeast monsoon season.
Why it matters
The easing of rainfall and rising temperatures in Kerala will affect daily life, agriculture, and water management in the state. While the immediate threat from Cyclone Arnab has passed for Kerala, the formation of new weather systems over the Bay of Bengal means continued vigilance is necessary for future weather patterns.
