Rajasthan BJP Leader Protests Use of 'Shoorveer' in Mirzapur Movie
· India · Indian Express, Hindustan Times
Former Rajasthan Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore has written to the Central Board of Film Certification to demand the removal of the song 'Shoorveer' from 'Mirzapur: The Movie'. Rathore argues the song, which pays tribute to Maharana Pratap, is being inappropriately used to glorify gangsters and criminals in the film. The movie is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the Excel Entertainment banner. Separately, Rajasthan-based artist Rapperiya Baalam has alleged that the filmmakers used his composition without his consent or copyright permission.
Why it matters
The dispute highlights growing tensions over the use of historical and cultural symbols in mainstream entertainment and the legal complexities of music copyright.
