Rajasthan HC Bans Junk Food in Schools, Targets Screen Time

The Rajasthan High Court in Jodhpur has issued a series of directives to address health and educational concerns for Gen Z and Gen Alpha students. Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand banned the sale of high-fat, high-sugar, and high-salt food items in school canteens and within a 50-metre radius of school gates. Schools are now mandated to form nutrition committees and display calorie counts and ingredient information using a traffic-light labelling system. The court also expressed concern over excessive screen time and the impact of AI on fundamental learning skills, urging a balance between digital and traditional education. Additionally, the state government must respond within eight weeks regarding these measures and provide an affidavit on the implementation of 2020 safe-food regulations.
