The Rajasthan High Court in Jodhpur has taken suo motu cognisance of issues affecting Gen Z, Gen Alpha, and Gen Beta, addressing concerns over junk food, excessive screen time, paper leaks, and rural school infrastructure. A single bench led by Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand banned the sale of high-fat, high-sugar, and high-salt food items in school canteens and within 50 metres of school gates. Schools are directed to form a School Food Safety and Nutrition Committee within four weeks and display menu boards with calorie counts and nutritional values. The court issued notices to departments overseeing health, education, public distribution, and consumer affairs, requiring responses within eight weeks. The state government must file an affidavit within six weeks detailing the implementation of 2020 food safety regulations in government, aided, and private schools.
