Rajasthan police rescue six girls sold into prostitution by families in Jhalawar district

· India · Indian Express, The Hindu

Six minor girls were rescued from an alleged prostitution racket in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district earlier this week after a decoy operation. Police arrested five people, including family members and relatives of the victims, who were allegedly forcing the girls into prostitution for money. A special team, supervised by Assistant SP Ayush Shrotriya, conducted the operation following a complaint received last month. During the raid, more than 100 police personnel, including women officers in plain clothes, seized incriminating material and rescued girls aged between 12 and 17. The accused were produced before a court on Friday and sent to three-day police remand. The families belong to a denotified tribe in Jhalawar, and local brokers facilitated the illegal trade, the SP said.

Why it matters

The rescue prevents further sexual exploitation of six minor girls, five of whom were found to have been repeatedly exploited, two of whom were found suffering from sexually transmitted diseases during medical examination. The arrests of family members and brokers disrupt the alleged trafficking network in Jhalawar district.
